Grinding it out downhole, Cougar Integral Blade Stabilizers are designed to last. The carbide - surfaced blades on the stabilizers keep the hole and drillstring on track and centered. Cougar places plenty of extra carbide on the leading edge of each blade, where stabilizers wear the most. This kind of construction ensures that even if hole conditions are tough, the stabilizers are even tougher.
Even the most abrasive formations won’t affect the performance of Cougar wear and cutting products. Cougar stabilizers are coated with state-of-the-art hardsurfacing.
We use melted carbide grains to form a polycrystalline matrix which holds ingots of pure tungsten carbide. Nickel-chrome is added to the matrix to increase shock and impact resistance. This hardsurfacing process produces a very hard wear surface (4000 hardness on the Vickers scale) with a very low coefficient of expansion and good elongation capacity. This means you have a tool with incredibly solid hardfacing, but without the problems of tool distortion and cracking.
Cougar Tool uses Plasma Transfer Arc (PTA) to rebuild select
Cougar stabilizers! A robotic PTA machine is used with
a
nickel-based hardfacing powder containing tungsten carbide.
Cougar chose this special alloy because it’s designed for severe abrasion or moderate combined corrosion and abrasion.
A revolutionary robotic welding process confers to these particles to an astonishing degree of impact strength, particle consistency, and abrasion resistance, meaning more running time with less wear and repeatable performance.
