The DJ-4 is the workhorse drilling jar of the oil patch. It’s used worldwide – in conventional and directional drilling, from the Alberta oil patch to the North Sea. The Cougar DJ-4 Drilling Jar is designed to perform in any drilling environment – offshore and onshore, conventional, horizontal and deep drilling. Operation is simple and safe because our locking mechanism prevents unintentional firing.

Performance

  • The Cougar DJ-4 Drilling Jar is hydraulically locked and has two modes of operation:Jar up – Hydraulic up action. Jarring force is controlled by the operator.
  • Bump Down – Mechanical bumper sub down action, 15-inch bumper stroke.

  • Hitting power adjustable at rig floor.
  • Firing times are not affected by oil temperature or viscosity.
  • Insensitive to right or left-handed torque.
  • Standard operating temperatures up to 225°F (93°C.)
  • Special seals are available upon request for higher
    operating temperatures.
  • Can be run in an open or closed position.
  • Spline end can be run in an up or down position.

Quality

The DJ-4 is designed and constructed to withstand high temperatures, high torques H2S, CO2 and other corrosive environments.

  • Tool joints and API body connections are stress-relieved using a modified API relief groove on pin connections and modified bore back on box connections. All threads are treated with an anti-corrosion and anti-galling coating process.
  • Wear areas are hard-surfaced for prolonged seal life.
  • The use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) enhances the performance of the DJ-4. CAD and FEA provide the highest standards of design geometry and accuracy. CAM ensures the high quality and repeatability of precision manufacturing that’s required for today’s extreme drilling applications.
